The soft colours suggest that this rug comes from southern Finland. A typical wedding rug, it is dated 1815 (Battle of Waterloo) and carries the brides initials, EHD. Ryas were never used on the floor, but for bed coverings: this piece is backed and in excellent condition. A masterpiece of folk art.
